Are You Ready to Rumble???? The Long Beach Marathon 2019 is Here October 13th, 2019
On October 13th, 2019 is the famous Long Beach Marathon 2019. This is the 35th Annual Marathon in Long Beach. I’ve lived here since 2008 and watch the run every year.
Have you run in the race? Aaaa….no. I can watch. My running days are over ended them in 1985 when I graduated from Cal State Long Beach.
I’m sure runners are getting ready this last week of preparation for the big race with a light run and fueling their bodies properly in anticipation of race day.

Sunday may be someone’s fun day but for the participants, it is game on. It’s race day for the 25,000 plus runners that will be running the Long Beach Marathon through the streets of Long Beach this morning. The air typically crisp and the streets are quiet in anticipation of the race today.

Where Does the Long Beach Marathon 2019 Begin
The starting line is at the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Shoreline Village Drive near Rainbow Park in the downtown area of the city of Long Beach. Look for the Aquarium of the Pacific and you will see the rest of the runners near bye getting ready.
Here is what the schedule looks like for the events today:
- 6 am is the Bike Tour
- 6:00 am the Wave of Runners begins with the full Long Beach marathon 2019
- 7:30 am is the Half Marathon Start Time
What Long Beach Residents Can Expect for the JetBlue Long Beach Marathon 2019
The outdoor Belmont Plaza Pool near Chuck’s Coffee Shop is mile 9 of the race. My guess, the elite runners should be at mile 9 about 7:45 am or so depending on their pace. There is a water station at this location to hydrate the runners until the next water station. Line the streets along the route to cheer everyone on.
How to Get Out of Belmont Shore During the Long Beach Marathon Event
Streets are closed along the race route today. If you are in Belmont Shore where I live, you should be able to get out using Bay Shore to 2nd Street and go over the bridge through Naples to Pacific Coast Highway.

After leaving Belmont Shore the races will be going up Livingston Drive through the many Long Beach neighborhoods along the route including Belmont Heights, Belmont Park along the Marine Stadium area behind Appian Way.
Then, they run around the Colorado Lagoon and past the Big Recreation Golf Course and off to Cal State Long Beach for a mad dash around the campus and back to Shoreline Village.

Watch Out for No Parking Signs
The city blocks off and closes roads. Read all of the signs for no parking areas. The last thing you want to do is get a ticket. According to the organizer’s website and my observation of the event over the years, the police may ticket and tow cars that are parked in the no parking areas before the Long Beach Marathon 2019 event.
